Alec: My New Cobalt Blue Tarantula

January 31st, 2006 by prnzardoz

I just got myself a new Cobalt Blue (Haplopelma lividum) Tarantula. Named her Alec, yes, after the black supermodel Alec Wek.

Cobalt1 Cobalt3_1

Quick stats:
Type: Deep burrower

Feeding: Large crickets, super meal worms
Enclosure: 10 gallon aquarium
Substrate: 4-6" deep bed-a-beast/peat/vermiculite
Furnishings: Cork bark shelter, plastic water dish
Temp/Humidity: 80-84°F, 80% Humidity
Temperment: Exceptionally aggressive and secretive

Cobalt_papers
Temperament:
The big girl is the psychotic monster that is so well know to those who dare keep her! She’s quite unpredictable and may appear calm, but suddenly lash out at the slightest provocation. Chasing this girl around the room is a most disconcerting experience. She mostly hides in her burrow, but will occasionally venture out for a week-long vacation. Of all the spiders in my collection, this is the one I would least like to wake up next to…

Species Information:
Haploplema lividum is a psychotic, high-strung burrowing species from Southeast Asia found in tropical forests. They like high humidity and temperatures.

Cobalt2_1 The baby is not quite so nasty, but it is naughty and will go on a runabout if bothered. Surprisingly fast little bugger.

AT SINO ANG MAY SABING NA-X ANG BILOG (CIRCLES) !?!

December 2nd, 2005 by prnzardoz

Maaaring totoo nga ang kasabihang good or bad publicity is still publicity, ngunit kung iisipin mo Sino nga ba ang may gusto ng bad publicity?

(Joni Fontanos)

Laguardia says it’s ‘a gimmick’

December 1st, 2005 by prnzardoz

“GIMMICK lang yan. This is not the first time that the MTRCB is being used to promote a film,” said Movie and Television Review and Classification Board Chair Marissa Laguardia.

The MTRCB chief was reacting to news reports that, for the second time, the Board rated “X” or “not fit for public viewing” the independent film “Bilog/Circles,” directed by Cris Pablo.

According to Laguardia, the producer, Grupong Sinehan, has not even applied for a permit to exhibit the film.

Only after securing a permit could the Board schedule the preview of “Bilog/Circles,” she added.

“How can the Board give an X rating when none of its members has seen the film?” Laguardia pointed out in a phone interview with Inquirer Entertainment on Tuesday.

What three MTRCB Board members thought should be banned, Laguardia stressed, was the movie’s poster.

“I would have rejected the poster myself,” she said. “There are half-naked men and a half-naked woman covering her private parts with her hands.”

Media release sent to the Inquirer said “Bilog/Circles” would be premiered at the Robinson’s Galleria in Pasig City on Dec. 2.

“If its producers want that premiere to push through,” insisted Laguardia, “now is the time to act.”

‘Bilog’ poster, not the film, rated X

“I don’t know where the rumors are coming from,” says digital filmmaker Cris Pablo, whose latest work, “Bilog/Circles,” was reportedly given an X rating by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board. An e-mail received by Inquirer Entertainment claimed the movie was “X’d twice.”

“Only the poster was rejected by the MTRCB,” Pablo clarified. “They explained that it was because it showed half-naked men. I don’t understand; I’ve seen worse on billboards.”

Pablo explained that he had yet to submit the film for review. He hoped to do so yesterday or early today, he said, adding that he was eyeing an R-13 rating.

His first, “Duda,” was rated X; his second, “Bathhouse,” R-18.

“[But] I wouldn’t be surprised if we got an R-18,” Pablo said. “All gay films are automatically rated R-18.”

He hoped to unveil his film tomorrow, at the Robinsons Galleria. Regular run begins Dec. 7.

Newcomers

“Bilog/Circles” features newcomers Reiven Bulado, Christopher Canizares, Apollo Jones, Xeno and Alynna Velasquez.

Archie de Calma, lead actor, expressed confidence in Pablo, saying, “He knows the limits.”

Independent producers of digital films, Pablo said, shell out P8,000 per review screening and P800 per poster submission.

“Small producers should be encouraged instead,” he pointed out. “But I think having problems with the MTRCB is a good sign. ‘Masahista’ and ‘Maximo Oliveros’ went through the eye of a needle, and they got good buzz.”

“Maximo,” according to producer Raymond Lee, was almost given an R-13. Lee told Inquirer Entertainment: “I explained that our film espoused good values, like loyalty to family. On second screening, we got a PG-13. The MTRCB listens to filmmakers.”

The 40 Year-Old “Indie” Virgin

November 8th, 2005 by prnzardoz

ENTERTAINMENT columnist-turned-indie film actor Archie
de Calma never had it so good until he was bitten by
the bug and got entangled in the web of independent
cinema. Twenty years in the business (he started his
movie writing career when he was still in college), he
suddenly thought of something new to keep the
dampening adrenalin going.

Archie Apollo

In 2003, Archie staged his debut as a playwright
via "Pamhinta", a gay buddy feel-good contemporary
literary piece on the multiple lives of bisexuals and
straight-acting homosexuals, at the Cultural Center of
the Philippines’ Tanghalang Huseng Batute. No less
than acclaimed stage directors Khryss Adalia and Phil
Noble directed the successful play.

Through this experience, Archie gained more
confidence in trying new and exciting things. After a
couple of years, he found himself auditioning for
parts in independent productions as an actor. To his
surprise, he got the funny part as the emotional gay
dad in the indie comedy entitled "69", directed by
indie greenhorn, Yasmin Coles.

Earlier part of this year, before Archie turned
40, he answered the invitation of Grupong Sinehan
headed by Cris Pablo to join their summer acting
workshop. From among the more than twenty
participants, Grupong Sinehan decided to bank on his
potentials as an indie film actor by finally
entrusting him the role of Cris, the pivotal and
central character in the production of
"Bilog/Circles".

Tambayan Deo

Archie sees a bright future in indie cinema at
this point that the mainstream cinema is at its lowest
ebb. He’s all too willing to explore the avenues which
have never been opened to him even during his most
active years as a movie writer.

His "Bilog" director and co-stars believe that his
determination will quickly catapult his intention in
getting into the realm of indie cinema, not just as an
actor, but as a scriptwriter or a director, if given
the opportunity.

According to Cris Pablo, more established actors
expressed their interest in portraying the funny but
dark lead character in "Bilog", but since the whole
concept relies on its being a workshop production,
Archie has just marked an edge. His raw approach
against the more studied and academic acting methods
of the thespians has been more favored by the
controversial director of "Duda/Doubt" and
"Bathhouse".

Aside from fellow workshoppers, Archie was given
tremendous support by his "mainstream" friends who
appeared in significant cameos, sans financial
considerations, just for the accomplishment of
"Bilog". Ara Mina plays the role of Archie’s
schizophrenic sister, providing a twist of redemption
to a funny but cheming portrayal.

Acting with Ara, even for just two sequences, has
made Archie up on his toes than usual. He describes
every moment of the numerous takes as "an acting
showdown", as the actress didn’t want to miss the
"rollercoaster ride" with one of her closest friends
from the press.

The husband-and-wife team of Gerard Pizarras and
Jan Marini comes as a surprise that legitimizes this
indie film from the ordinary.

For Archie, his life in the indies has just begun,
as his "virginity" takes another roll of challenges.
One real good thing leads to another, so they say, as
the movie writer who sidelines as an actor will soon
be seen playing the role of a straight macho having
sex with a female prostitute in the short film
entitled "All in A Day".

Cris Pablo wants Archie to be in another Third
World indie drama about the lives of female and
homosexual sex peddlers in the nitty-gritty port area
of Navotas.

"Bilog/Circles" will open in theaters on November
23 and will hold its grand premiere to an exclusive
audience on November 21 at the Robinson’s Galleria.

Si No Te Hubiera Conocido

CristinaChristina:

Both:
Enamorados, siempre de manos, eternamente
Si no te hubiera conocido no sé qué hubiera sido de mí, mi amor
Sin tu mirada enamorada no sé si yo podría vivir

Christina:
Sin el latido de tu corazón

Luis:
El mundo es más frío

Both:
Nada tendría sentido
Si nunca te hubiera, conocido
Oooh, ooh oh ooh, ohh ohh

Christina:
Toda mi vida soñé con tu llegada, mi amor

Luis:

Both:

Christina:
Sin el latido de tu corazón

Luis:
El mundo es más frío

Both:
Nada tendría sentido
Si nunca te hubiera

Luis:
Conocido

Que hubiera sido de mí
Nada tiene sentido

Si no es contigo

Both:
No sé

Que hubiera sido de mí

No no, sin tu mirada enamorada no sé

Si yo podría vivir
